Mission

I want to convey to many people that Bitcoin is used globally.

Bitcoin’s ability to be used for cross-border payments, its fast transaction speed, and low fees are not well known in Japan. Therefore, I thought of making my own Bitcoin-themed goods and selling them to people around the world. By doing this, I hope to spark interest in Bitcoin among many people and help them gain a correct understanding of it.

A Challenge to MoE and UoA

Making Waves sells all of its goods at prices denominated in sats.
No matter how Bitcoin’s exchange rate against fiat currency rises or falls, the price remains the same.

The spread of Bitcoin as a Medium of Exchange (MoE) is gradually advancing thanks to passionate Bitcoiners around the world. In most cases of Bitcoin payments, goods are priced in dollars and then converted into sats at the day’s exchange rate. But Making Waves takes a different approach.

Behind this choice is the belief that one day Bitcoin will fully embody another essential property of money: the Unit of Account (UoA). Bitcoin has already gained considerable recognition as a Store of Value (SoV). Its role as a Medium of Exchange is also slowly expanding. And now, by embracing Bitcoin as a Unit of Account, I hope to deepen its identity as true money.

The three classic functions of money in economics
– Store of Value (SoV) → The ability to save and preserve value
– Medium of Exchange (MoE) → The ability to be used as a means of payment
– Unit of Account (UoA) → The ability to express the value of goods and services in that unit

Proof of Handmade

I share the making process on social media every day, proving that I am the one creating each piece.
My aim is to embody the open spirit of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin knows no borders

I want more people to understand that Bitcoin is a currency used globally, so I create goods in collaboration with Bitcoin communities, shops, and events around the world.

In Japan, many people still think of Bitcoin as having no real use — just an investment product.
But I want to show that Bitcoin has a powerful feature: the ability to be exchanged peer-to-peer instantly, even with people far away.
