About Traditional Patterns

Yagasuri Pattern
A pattern inspired by arrow feathers. It depicts a “hamaya,” an arrow believed to ward off evil and bring good fortune. There was a custom of giving kimonos with Yagasuri patterns to daughters when they got married to symbolize that they would not return home, as arrows, once shot, do not come back but fly straight.

Asanoha Pattern
A geometric pattern based on regular hexagons, resembling hemp leaves. Hemp is known for its strong vitality, and in the Edo period, kimonos with Asanoha patterns were worn by children as a prayer for healthy growth and protection from evil.

Ichimatsu Pattern
A pattern consisting of two-colored squares arranged in a checkerboard fashion. It symbolizes eternity and prosperity due to its uninterrupted, continuous design.

Karakusa Pattern
A pattern of intertwined vine plants forming curves. Its strong vitality and continuous vine growth symbolize prosperity and longevity. In Japan, Karakusa patterns are sometimes depicted on the cloth carried by thieves, which originates from the past when every household had cloths with Karakusa patterns that thieves used to wrap stolen goods.

Yoshiwara Tsunagi Pattern
A pattern resembling interconnected chains, named after the Yoshiwara pleasure district in Edo, where it was said that once someone entered, they could not easily leave. The pattern’s imagery of interconnected chains symbolizes rich human relationships and good connections.

I created original fabric with a Bitcoin theme.
To give it a cute and playful look, I featured round items like pizza, oranges, clocks, and keys arranged in a dotted pattern.

Bitcoin puppet pattern

I have created merchandise for Spiral’s character, the Bitcoin Puppet.
Spiral is also responsible for the Lightning Development Kit (LDK) and has released characters that can be used as open source.

B.B.Bear pattern

MakingWaves’ original character, a bear (Bear) that holds (Bear) Bitcoin (Bitcoin).
It wears a traditional Japanese jinbei and engages in Bitcoin-related activities.

This character was created not for goods that prominently display Bitcoin, but for items that can be used in everyday life, with the idea of “actually being Bitcoin-related but also practical for daily use.”

It has been used in Japan for centuries and is known as a “Drawstring Bag” overseas.

Drawstring bags with a square bottom are a traditional Japanese design.
They are lightweight and can be folded compactly.
These bags pair well with traditional Japanese clothing like yukata and jinbei, and are often used to carry small items during festivals and events.
Depending on their specific design, they are sometimes referred to as Shingenbukuro.

Mikan pattern

Drawing inspiration from Bitcoin and the color orange, I used fabric with a pattern of “Mikan,” a type of tangerine commonly enjoyed in Japan, and fabric featuring the “Asanoha” pattern, which evokes the appearance of an orange cross-section.

While this handmade item is inspired by Bitcoin, I aimed for a subtle design that is suitable for everyday use.

About the fabric

＜Nishijin brocade (wave, cherry blossom)＞
Traditional textile made in Kyoto.
Traditional textile made in the Nishijin area of Kyoto. Using beautifully colored threads and intricate weaving techniques, gorgeous patterns are created.
Among Nishijin brocade fabrics, those with patterns woven with gold and silver threads are called “Kinran.

＜Bingata＞
Bingata is a traditional dyeing technique from Okinawa, Japan.
It is characterized by vivid colors and intricate patterns, often depicting nature themes.
